State of Science Presentation and Consultation Session – Health and Medical Industry

Thu 23 Jan, 2020 3:30pm - 5pm

  • « Equity in Health
  • FREE WEBINAR: Code of Ethics for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Research »

You are invited to hear from Professor Caroline McMillen, Chief Scientist for South Australia and share your thoughts on the development of South Australia’s Science and Innovation Strategy – this Strategy is focussed on supporting the Growth State Plan and aims to support growth in productivity and Gross State Product to place South Australia in the top quartile measures in the OECD relative to the size of our economy.

Thursday 23 January 2020
3.30pm – approx. 5.00pm
SAHMRI Auditorium
North Terrace, Adelaide

A number of potential strategic actions are proposed within the draft strategy that aim to support businesses within the State, through:

  • supporting SME and business leaders to harness the capabilities of frontier technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, photonics, sensors and new materials to add value in competitive global markets and to build frontier technology capability and capacity to support entry of businesses into new markets
  • knowledge transfer between research and business, through greater mobility of graduates between academia and industry and exposure of graduates to key business problems and industry know how
  • a structured approach to the translation of innovation to drive stronger commercialisation outcomes and access to new markets
  • the development of an annual SA Future Workforce Forum which brings together leaders from across industry and all education sectors to review the mapping of the demand and supply pressures for the future STEMM workforce. This will allow co-development of solutions to pressing short term issues and the development of longer-term strategies to ensure key demand and supply mismatch issues are addressed.

We hope you can join the discussion and help shape the Science and Innovation Strategy for South Australia.
