Are you a researcher who wants to work with the community but is unsure where to start? Join this virtual panel session to move beyond the theory and learn from local success stories.

We are pleased to present a diverse panel with researchers across laboratory-based roles, registries, clinical research and even the corrections sector. You’ll also hear directly from an experienced health consumer on how to get the best out of your partnership.

The session will include audience Q&A, so bring along your burning questions and let our panel help clarify areas of confusion.

Speakers

Your panelists include:

  • Dr Carolyn Berryman

    Dr Carolyn Berryman is a Research Fellow at the University of South Australia and a Senior Physiotherapist in the Paediatric Chronic Pain Service at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Her strong desire to uncover and clinically exploit meaningful approaches to persistent pain has led to a focus on the intersection of brain mechanisms, cognition and the lived experience of those with chronic pain.
  • Prof Gillian Caughey

    Prof Gillian Caughey is a Pharmacoepidemiologist with research interests in population health surveillance, medicine safety and utilisation, with a strong focus on the older population and aged care sector. Her research to date, has a strong translational focus on improving health outcomes for the older population and she is internationally recognised for her work on multimorbidity and polypharmacy.
  • Mario Corena

    Mario Corena is an avid volunteer, event organiser and fundraiser with a range of charities, hospitals, grant committees and community groups. He is a valued consumer advocate for a range of organisations including research institutes, universities, local health networks, non-government organisations and not-for-profits. He shares knowledge and support on the weekly mental health segment on Radio Italiana 531 and is a multi-award winner for community service.
  • Dr Shyam Muthuramalingam

    Dr Shyam Muthuramalingam offers a unique blend of personal insight and professional expertise in consumer and community engagement. His approach, rooted in lived experience, with professional acumen inspires innovative engagement strategies in health and medical research. Through his leadership and storytelling workshops, Shyam empowers consumers for self-advocacy and arms researchers with crucial tools for meaningful consumer collaboration.
  • Dr Hannah Wardill

    Dr Hannah Wardill is a translational scientist working to predict and prevent the debilitating side effects of cancer therapy. With her work straddling both the bench and the bedside, Hannah has unique perspectives on how to engage with consumers in both preclinical and clinical research environments.
