The Health Studies Australian National Data Asset (HeSANDA) program is a national initiative led by the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) that aims to develop the infrastructure needed to support health research data sharing and collaboration across Australia. A key outcome of the program is Health Data Australia, a national catalogue that enables researchers to register information about their studies, increasing their visibility and making them easier to discover. Through the infrastructure established by HeSANDA, partners across Australia support researchers to share and access health data.
Initially focused on improving access to investigator-initiated clinical trial data through HeSANDA Clinical Trials, the initiative expanded in 2025 to include the HeSANDA Cohort Studies Network. In South Australia, the HeSANDA Cohort Studies project is currently being delivered through a partnership with Adelaide University. Associate Professor Tiffany Gill leads the work, providing cohort study expertise and operational support through to June 2027.
The HeSANDA program receives investment from the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC). The ARDC is enabled by the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS).
HTSA was pleased to support the development of the South Australian Node of the project. Through our involvement in the HeSANDA Clinical Trials and Cohort Studies projects, HTSA has supported stakeholder outreach and collaboration to raise awareness of the HeSANDA program and facilitate its establishment.
